1. (St.) Valentine's Day
In Japan, Valentine's Day (February 14) is a day for women to express their feelings for men by giving gifts, usually chocolate. Some women also give chocolate to male colleagues they do not have any particular feelings for as a token gesture. It is called giri-choco, or obligatory chocolate. Chocolate for someone special is called honmei choco (chocolate for one's true favorite). A month later, on March 14, men give women candy in return for their Valentine's Day chocolate.
