説明

A hyakunin isshu is an anthology of 100 famous waka poems by 100 different poets. The most famous is the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu compiled by Fujiwara no Teika (1162-1241). Since the Edo period, hyakunin isshu has also been played as a karuta (card) game in which there are yomifuda (reading cards), which contain the entire poem, and torifuda (grabbing cards), which contain only the final two lines. While the reader (yomite) is reading the waka from a yomifuda aloud, the players compete to“grab”the corresponding torifuda card as soon as they recognize the poem and remember how the continuing lines go. The player who grabs the most cards wins. This game is most often played during New Year's holidays.
意訳：代表的歌人100人の和歌を１首ずつ選んだものを言うが，藤原定家が選んだ『小倉百人一首』が最も有名．江戸時代にはカルタとしても遊ばれるようになった．カルタは和歌１首を書いた読み札と下の句のみを書いた取り札とに分かれる．遊び方は一人の読み手が和歌を読み，複数の取り手が即座に下の句を判断して正しい札を取り，数多く取った者を勝ちとする．主として正月に遊ばれる
